Children and infants are prone to spinal misalignment just as much as adults are. The birthing process is quite an ordeal with newborn infants experiencing a lot of twisting and pulling that occurs to their neck. This creates many misalignments within your child’s spine.
One of the most common is that of the first bone of the neck the atlas. Whether the birth is vaginal, or C-section, the child’s head and neck tend to be the leverage point for doctors to pull on when delivering your baby. This twisting/pulling motion shifts this bone out of alignment, causing major neurological tension and symptomatology for many children.
The solution for this misalignment is a very gentle pressure in the right direction to shift this bone gently back into its proper place. This decreases the tension on your child’s nervous system and allows it to function properly. Some of the symptoms of this neurological tension are:
- Fussiness/inability to sleep
Another common problem that occurs with infants and young children is that the bones from the lower neck down to the low back can become knocked forward. When this occurs a slight pulling on the spinal cord and brainstem occurs which causes a multitude of symptoms. We must determine if your child’s symptoms are due to a structural cause or if it needs to be investigated further with functional lab work analysis (functional nutrition).
Depending on the symptoms present, sometimes these things can be caused by other issues. For example, an infant can have reflux because their digestive system is still growing and developing. Supplementing a small number of digestive enzymes can make a huge difference in these initial stages of development for your child. We can determine these things in a functional nutrition consultation. The next set of issues tend to happen as infants progress to young children.
As young infants age into young children the process of learning how to crawl and eventually walk creates even more of these misalignments. Young children tend to fall on their butts constantly while learning how to crawl and walk. This creates a series of misalignments in the low back and pelvis. These misalignments will once again create a tension in the spinal cord and brainstem leading to a new set of physical problems for your child. You may notice that they have a strange walk or tend to fall over in a specific direction. These are all signs that your child has misalignments that need to be corrected.
Luckily, infants and children respond very well to ABC™ technique and functional nutrition intervention. The earlier we correct these issues the bigger the response will be for your child’s long-term wellbeing. Too many parents make the mistake of never having their infant/child evaluated and bring them in when there is a multitude of problems. The earlier you bring them in the easier things are to correct.
